Every now and then I give a little anticipatory shiver, followed by the realization that it’s the little things in life that make me do so. It always takes me by surprise. They are transitory moments and fill me with intense happiness and contentment.
Lilac and Rosemary
It might be the sound of magpies squabbling, the smell of the season’s first Lilac or the sight of a new calf struggling to its feet having just been born. A full-bellied laugh from my children will also always do the trick. These moments tend to happen to me most at our farm, when I’m outside mucking around with the kids. If I could, I’d up-end the entire family and move there tomorrow but that’s just not possible right now.
So instead we escape whenever we can. And this weekend we did just that in “Babe2”, the Ford EcoSport Titanium that has been loaned to me for review by Ford Australia and Kidspot for being a finalist of Voices of 2014.

I must admit to thinking she wouldn’t handle the farm at all well. She’s not a 4WD; instead a snappy little SUV, which I imagined to be far better suited to zipping around the streets of Sydney. Let me show you a few photos to prove just how wrong I was.

She delighted in driving around our garden; loaded with new plants and old tools for planting in some new garden beds.

She took my daughter Grace and me way out into the back paddocks on roads that haven’t seen a council grader in years, if at all. She even killed a snake with her sturdy little tyres.

Despite the ‘joe blake’, it was a beautiful morning and we marvelled at how many kangaroos were about, the fierceness of the cows protecting their calves (Babe2 got charged by a very cranky cow) and the loveliest mob of sheep I’ve seen in a while.
Best of all? She cost only a tad under $100 (in petrol) for a round trip of approximately 600kms.
Dirty but delighted
Babe2 is now back in town, dirty but delighted and I thank her for giving me a weekend full of little, but very happy moments.

I’m with Rene on this one! I would LOVE to spend a week on Your Farm! I don’t know the whys/why nots, as to not living there full time…..But, it must be really hard not to want too just pack it all up and move!
Hello, the farm looks so lovely, I can almost smell the freshness in the air. Great that the car managed well and that it didn’t use too much petrol at all. You know I’ve swapped from a 7-seater Chrysler which was a huge gas guzzler and it feels so much better to use a lot less. You make me realise I need to get into the countryside.

I often have those moments you speak off.. usually when I am driving home after spending time in the city and I pop up over the last hill in the ‘suburbs’ and I can see the our mountain and the paddocks and I am suddenly struck by how lucky we are to live where we live and have all that we have….
